English Language

Language Arts is the specific area of study which deals with the tools that a learner needs in order for him or her to acquire the ability to communicate effectively, particularly in speech and writing.  The skills learned in language arts are the channels by which information is disseminated and understanding is gained in all the other content areas of the curriculum.

Traditionally, language arts was defined as the study of reading, writing, speaking and listening, but in 1996, the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association added two other components – viewing and visually representing.
